Mahjong of Taipei, Bembridge, Isle of Wight
September’s deck of the month is Mahjong of Taipei – a Warwick CT-38. She’s a fast, classic ocean sailing yacht with a great pedigree. She was designed by New Zealand naval architect Alan Warwick to withstand the rigors of the Tasman Sea.
Built in 1982, she was exhibited at the Southampton Boat Show the same year. She was constructed in Taiwan and then finished at Moody’s here on the South Coast. Her owner, Mr Landon says: “She’s a beautiful classic that is often mistaken for a Swan 38 or 40.”
Mr Landon bought her almost 8 years ago from the family that had owned her since new. He told us that the original decks were teak and in drastic need of replacement, but the cost of replacing teak was inhibitive. Mr & Mrs Landon opted for synthetic teak decking and chose Dek-King in ‘Weathered’ to create the beautiful finish seen in the photos.
Mahjong of Taipei has been undergoing a major refurbishment and will be back on the water next year.
